Hi everyone ! This post wil be the last of my "Neon Week" series. I enjoyed a lot making DIY and blogposts on the neon theme and I hope you enjoyed reading them. I'm preparing cool posts for october and I will be back soon with other videos. Today I wanted to write a DIY post on how to make handbag charms. This is the first one I made for my sports bag and I'm glad of the result. It took me around 30 minutes to do it and it was a lot of fun.

Supplies

  • 1 brooch to be customized
  • 1 white feather
  • neon fabric pens (Pebeo Setaskrib)
  • neon green, yellow and pink beads
  • pearls (different sizes)
  • split rings (different sizes)
  • 1 flat cord end to attach the feather
  • 2 head pins
  • 1 bulk chain
  • embroidery thread
  • 1 wire cutter
  • 1 flat nose plier

1. The feather

First, decorate the white feather using neon fabric pens. For this, place the feather on a sheet of paper and color the ends of the feather by alternating the colors (see the blogpost about my feather earrings for further details and pictures). Then, attach the feather with a flat cord end using the flat nose plier. Finally you will add a split ring on the flat cord end in order to attach the feather on the brooch.

2. The cotton thread pompon

To make the pompon, cut several pieces of thread (about 5 cm each) in order to make it thick enough. Pass the threads through a medium split ring. Then bend the threads around the split ring (see picture above). With another thread, make a knot around your pompon, and make the thread turn again and again around the pompon. Finally add a small split ring to attach the pompon on the brooch.

3. Split rings, pearls and beads

Neon beeds

Join 2 small split rings on a medium split ring (picture above) and add one more medium split ring that you will use to attach the rings on the brooch. Prepare also 4 small split rings on which you will insert 2 beads of different colors. Place the beads rings on the brooch.

4. Beads head pins

Prepare two head pins : put a big pearl on it, then 3 different beads - pink, green, yellow - then a smaller pearl, three different beads again, and finally another small pearl. Cut the head pin around 6 mm above the last pearl. Curl the head pin to make a loop. Add a split ring to attach it on the brooch.

Finally cut two pieces of bulk chain (around 6 cm each). Add a small split ring on each chain to attach them on the brooch too.

Your handbag brooch charm is ready ! You can use it with other accessories or on a jacket for example. I hope this DIY gave you lots of creative ideas !

See you soon,

Clara

The Neon Week #5 : Revamp an old top

H&M white fringed top - Revamped with neon fabric pens
H&M white fringed top - Revamped with neon fabric pens

This is a long lasting Neon Week I guess ! Here I am today with the last "neon fabric" DIY, to show you that you can easily revamp an old clothing by adding some colors. And because I loved the Pebeo fabric pens I found a cool project to make before the end of the Neon Week and the end of september. Yes, fall is already there and soon we will have to take our coats and put our boots on...

Then it's the occasion to take advantage of the last days of the week to post two projetcs that I wanted to share with you : I revamped a top that I bought at H&M in 2013 and I made a nice accessory for my bag (post to come).

Also, I'm making a video to show you all the projects I made for the Neon Week on this blog, so stay tuned ! ;-)

The supplies I used for this project : 1 H&M top and Pebeo Setaskrib neon fabric pens

The top I revamped is from H&M and I bought it in 2013. It's a white fringed top. As I like everything Indian, ethnic and feathered, I wanted to make a matching top for my homemade neon feather earrings. And to be sure the colors would be the same I used the same pens to color the feathers and the top. At first I thought the white top was too simple, even banal because you couldn't really see the fringes, but after I colored it I loved the result. It's perfect for summer (so I will wait before I can wear it again !), and it's unusual, I like it !

To revamp this top, I colored the fringes with my neon pens, interposing the colors as follows : yellow-green-pink-orange. I isolated the fringes on a sheet of paper because the pens are full of ink and the colors can quickly pass through the fabric.

Do you like the new look of my top ? Leave comments in the section below or send me pictures of your own projects if you also revamped an old clothing ! I would love to read your comments ;-)

See you soon,

Clara

The Neon Week #4 : Tote bag

Neon can be applied to any kind of items. Without using too much of it, you can easily apply thin shades of neon here and there and make your items even more original. This week I've been obsessed with feathers and neon pens. Several days ago I doodled feathers on a Starbucks Coffee cup, and I hade fun making feather earrings. Today here's another idea to use your favorite design and decorate a tote bag.

I found mine in a French crafts store called Cultura for less than 4 €. As you may guess, I chose the neon feathers design to decorate it !

Supplies

  • 1 tote bag
  • Neon fabric pens - Pébéo Setaskrib
  • 1 black fabric pen - Darwi Tex Opak

Decorating your tote bag is very simple. Doodle your favorite design with the black fabric pen. Then color it with the neon fabric pens, and let it to dry for 2 hours. If you forecastt to wash it you have to iron the decorated fabric upside down 5 minutes without steam.

Show me your decorated tote bag on Twitter or Instagram and leave comments in the section below ! See you soon ;-)

Neon feather earrings - DIY
Neon feather earrings - DIY

Following the Neon Week on this blog, today I have a DIY for you. I will show you how to make these cute neon feather earrings. The feathers will be painted in neon using the Pebeo fabric pen, making those earrings even more original. While I'm writing these words, one idea comes to my mind, and I'm telling myself that I probably could have called this week "the feathers week" instead of "Neon Week" ! Three days ago I was talking about the neon feathers on my doodled Starbucks cup and today I'm still talking about feathers...sorry mates !

This DIY project will take you about 30 to 40 minutes and you will need a bit of supplies.

Supplies

Pebeo Setaskrib Neon Pen
Earrings supplies
  • 6 white feathers : you will need 3 pairs of different sizes - 2 small, 2 medium and 2 big feathers
  • Neon fabric paint (I used the Pebeo Setaskrib pens)
  • 1 bulk chain
  • 2 flat cord ends
  • 2 earrings
  • small split rings
  • 1 wire cutter
  • 1 flat nose plier
  • 1 sheet of paper
White feathers

Painting feathers with neon fabric pens

First of all, place the feathers on a sheet of paper. Color the ends of each feather with the neon fabric pens.  Intersperse colors for best results. I used three colors for my feathers : pink, green and yellow. The orange color that you can see is just a mix between the pink and the yellow, which I didn't want at the beginning but finally I found it cute ! The paint dries very fast, you don't need to wait before next step.

Gather 3 feathers and attach them with a flat cord end. Place the feathers per size order, the biggest on the bottom, then the medium one and finally the small feather on top. Then close the flat cord end with a flat nose plier on the  back of the feathers, this way you won't see it once the earring is in place.

Cut 2 pieces of bulk chain, around 7,5 cm long. For this you will need a wire cutter, and be careful ! Protect your eyes. Then with a small split ring, attach the feathers to the bulk chain.

Finally, open the split ring on the crochet earring and attach it on the bulk chain.

Your feather earring is ready ! Repeat the process to make the second earring.

The Neon Week #1 : Office supplies

Office supplies and organization
Office supplies and organization

"Back to school" supplies and september shopping made me want to reorganize my office supplies storage. Since august in France the main stores have made huge commercial operations for school supplies and everytime I went to a store I couldn't leave without checking the pens, highlighters and other stuff.

However this year I'm crazy with neon supplies ! At Hema's I bought a small agenda, a To Do note pad and I found the most beautiful highlighters of the year which are the Bic Brite Liners. I'm ready now for my new organization and more than ever motivated to work in a happy mood.

I reorganized my supplies storage and on this occasion I wanted to share with you some ideas. You will see that you can do great stuff on a budget and enhance your decoration with very few things. The goal of this is to get motivation to sit in front of your office everyday and do your homework, take notes, be creative ! :-)

This is the Neon Week on my blog !

Idea #1 : Use cosmetics storage for your office supplies

Office supllies storage - Cosmetics storage

I bought that acrylic storage box a long time ago and I used it to store my makeup in my bathroom. One day I found that the left compartment had the same size as my post-it notepad ! So I decided to use it for my office supplies instead of makeup. You can find that kind of acrylic boxes in main stores or on Amazon.com (I paid for it around 4 €).  Now this box holds my most used supplies, like highlighters and sticky notes, a glue stick, a stapler and pencils.

Idea #2 : reuse a Starbucks cup and make a unique pen holder !

Follow your imagination and customize a Starbucks cup ! You can use it as a pencil and pen holder. In addition to recycling an object you will have a super nice decor element to add to your desk. In April 2014 Starbucks organized a drawing competition with its famous cups. I would have loved to attend the competiton with the above design. I introduce my own doodle : adorned with neon feathers my cup is ready to stand on my desk ! What do you think about it ?

I made a video so you can see how I drew the feathers. I post it as soon as possible on YouTube ! In the meantime feel free to send me pictures of your creations on Twitter or Instagram @misshappyrose ;-)

"To do" notepad from Hema
"To do" notepad from Hema

This year I simply repurchased the supplies I use the most : highlighters and pencils as well as a "To Do" notepad. This is the base of my organization actually. I write important things down and I use the highlighters to remember it more easily. I also use color codes to make it more fun to use on a daily basis.

The most important thing if you want to start a similar organization is to find the system that will fit you the most. You want things to become "automatic". then you will start writing the very important things in your agenda (meetings, birthdays and anniversaries, deadlines for administrative mail and such things) ; on the "To do" Notepad you will make lists for example before going to the grocery store or things to do for a clean home, ideas, and simple stuff that you always forget to do, things you want to check on the Internet - I really need a Notepad for this because if I don't use one, I forget it right away !

Well, this is how I reorganized my office supplies, I hope you enjoyed this blogpost. Feel free to leave comments and send me your own pictures if you changed your organization too. See you soon for another post and video !
