Knitting : Heart keychain

Knitted heart key chain | Red | Knitting DIY

Hello everyone !

I'm back with a new pattern dedicated to a little object I'm sure you will enjoy knitting. We are going to make a sweet little heart to be padded and used as a keychain. This pattern is a little bit more complicated than the previous ones, but it takes less than an hour to make this heart and it is helpful for those who want to practise more and learn how to place stitches on hold and how to increase and decrease stitches.

Also for the fans of decoration and DIY's this project is great to make a garland or a baby mobile (I will post an example of both projects within two weeks).

Supplies

Red acrylic yarn and knitting needles from Hema store

To make this little heart you will need :

  • 1 yarn  (I used a 100% acrylic yarn from Style Studio color 033)
  • 1 pair of needles #4 (I used needles from Hema store)
  • 1 stitch holder or a safety pin
  • 1 sewing needle (specific for knitting)
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • padding polyester

Stitch : garter stitch

Making

Cast on 3 stitches and knit 2 rows.

Row 3 : knit 1 stitch, increase 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches.

Row 4 : knit the entire row (garter stitch)

From row 5 : increase 1 stitch on left and right at 1 stitch from the edge, and repeat 4 times every 2 rows.

Row 13 : knit the entire row (garter stitch) on the obtained 14 stitches

Row 14 : knit 1 stitch, decrease 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, then 2 stitches together, and 1 stitch

Place the 7 remaining stitches on hold.

On the right side of the heart :

Row 15 : knit the entire row (garter stitch) on the 5 remaining stitches

Row 16 : knit 1 stitch, decrease 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches

Knit 3 rows on the 4 remaining stitches

Row 20 : knit 1 sticth, decrease 1 stitch, knit one stitch

Row 21 : knit the entire row (garter stitch) on the 3 remaining stitches

Row 22 : knit 1 stitch, then 2 stitches together

Row 23 :  knit the entire row (garter stitch) on both remaining stitches

Row 24 : bind off the last stitches

Take back the stitches you placed on hold on the left side of the heart

On the left side of the heart :

Row 15 : knit the entire row (garter stitch) on the 5 remaining stitches

Row 16 : knit 2 stitches, then 2 stitches together and 1 stitch

Knit 3 rows on the 4 remaining stitches

Row 20 : knit 1 stitch, then 2 stitches together and 1 stitch

Row 21 : knit the entire row (garter stitch) on the 3 remaining stitches

Row 22 : knit 1 stitch, then 2 stitches together

Row 23 : knit the entire row (garter stitch) on both remaining stitches

Row 24 : bind off the last stitches

Knit a second heart.

Place the hearts face to face and sew the outer edges. Keep a little space (open enough) to return the heart and pad it with the polyester flakes.

Pad the heart with polyester and sew it.

Keep the threads in the center to attach the heart on any support (keychain, garland, baby mobile...)
